ABOUT
I am a photographer based in Philadelphia. I spent many years as a newspaper reporter working around the South and the West. In 2010 I was awarded the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi award for my coverage of the drug war in Juárez, México. Then, and now as a documentary photographer, I look for stories about places in transition or people who are struggling with the changes and chances of life. I have a BA in journalism from Indiana University and an MA in creative writing from Boston University.
My book, Atlantic City, the Last Hurrah, has just been released by Daylight Books. It contains 55 black-and-white photographs of Atlantic City taken over the last four years to capture the iconic shore resort as it emerged from its latest crisis. The Guardian also wrote a piece about the book.
I was a finalist for the 2018 Pollux Documentary and Reportage Award for my early work on Atlantic City, some of which was shown in the 5th Barcelona Biennial in 2018.
I also have completed a project for which I followed three families in a remote part of Northern New Mexico for three years. They shared much of their lives with me as they coped with the challenges of living in a difficult environment.
